Microfinance
Our goal is to help Uganda’s most needy to become self sustaining, in order that they might be enabled to give back, both to their own families and to the people around them.
The first step to this process is done through our Life With Hope program. Through monthly sponsorships, we provide them with the basics they need in order to become strong again, and the sanitation systems necessary to have clean water. We also provide them with the money they need in order to pay for transportation to get medication if they are struggling with AIDS.
After our clients are well enough to enter back into the workforce, we work with them to find a sustainable business that they can begin in order to support their families. We then present them with a loan for the amount they need to purchase supplies for their businesses. This is a micro loan, suited to their needs in an economy that deals with much smaller amount of money than the United States. In order to keep them accountable to using the money we give them to starting a business, we require that they pay us back in very small, manageable amounts received at accountability meetings with project leaders.
Many of our clients are women that we have helped to begin a sustainable business making necklaces out of paper and glue. These necklaces are sold by partners throughout the United States, and provide for these women’s children to attend school, as well as paying for food for their families and monthly rent for their small homes.
